3D printers have revolutionised the manufacturing process with many companies deciding to buy a 3d printer for their products. 3D printing is one of the newest crazes to hit the printing and copying industry, with more and more people asking about it every single month.
3D printing is achieved by laying down successive layers of material until you get the finished process. A few years ago, we demonstrated the 3D Printer at an exhibition in Wakefield where we made items such as chess pieces. The process can take a long time with a print taking hours to do.
How does it work?
Before you even think about the end product, you need make a virtual design of the object you are looking to print. A CAD file is created using a 3D modeling application, or you can sue 3D scanners from companies like Microsoft and Google.
From Model to Printer
Once you have 3D model you have to prepare it by slicing it into hundreds, or even thousands of horizontal layers. These are then the layers that are printed on top of each other over time to create your 3D image.
What can be printed?
There are lots of things that can be printed by a 3D printer and they are already being used by aircraft manufacturers across the world to make parts. Other things that have already been created include jar holders, soap dishes, tools (including hammers and wrenches) and much more.
